Making of the Knot Sculptures

Making of the Knot Sculptures www.martinroe.500px.com

Not content with buying ready made jewelry components off the shelf, we regularily scour antique markets and explore far off places for inspiration. Objects are carefully chosen for the image they represent and the character they hold.

The Knot series is an example of a unique shape that we transformed into wearable pieces. Here we begin to dissect the process to help you understand the level of detail involved in creating each Macha piece.

We produce rough sketches to help us understand the best scale and fit of each piece. A piece of wax is sawn off with a regular jewellers saw. The knot pendant is carved from wax by hand and eye, with a series of files whilst refering to the original found object. Careful attention is paid to achieving the correct weight and size so you receive a high quality piece, the interior is carved out to help balance the weight. All in all, the process takes around 20 hours by a single craftsperson.

Then over to our carefully chosen suppliers who cast the piece in the metal of your choice. We clean, polish and hand finish each piece on return before delivering to you.
